BERKELEY, CA – June 16, 2025 – Girl Scouts of Northern California (GSNorCal) has partnered with the Berkeley Food Network to donate 20,000 packages of cookies to the community.
This past cookie season, community members who didn’t want to fill their freezers with Thin Mints could opt to donate them to local food banks, troops, or hometown heroes. The program, called Care to Share, allows people to give back and support their local Girl Scout troops without stocking their own cupboards. Care to Share is part of the larger Girl Scout Cookie Program—the world’s largest girl-led entrepreneurial program—which teaches girls essential skills in goal setting, decision making, and community engagement.
Girl Scout youth and adult volunteers went to the Berkeley Food Network to help organize the donated cookies, helping to prepare them to be handed out to those in need.
“Supporting those around us is baked into the Girl Scout mission, and we teach all our youth members the importance of community service” said Mary-Jane Strom, CEO of GSNorCal. “It is our immense pleasure to partner with the Berkeley Food Network to brighten someone's day with a sweet treat.”
Thanks to this partnership and the generosity of the community, thousands of people will receive a small moment of joy and Girl Scouts will carry forward the lesson that giving back is always in season.
