Media Squad is where creative voices are amplified through media and storytelling. Through this unique program, Girl Scouts gain hands-on experience in content creation, video production, public relations, and social media while sharing stories that inspire the next generation of Girl Scouts.
What You’ll Learn in Media Squad:
Media Squad members build confidence speaking on camera, develop video production skills, create content for GSNorCal, and gain hands-on experience starring in GSNorCal-produced videos. Throughout the program, members complete projects that help them strengthen their storytelling, communication, and media skills.
*Note: Girl Scouts can apply for two Media Squad cohorts in total. Media Squad alum who have been in two or more cohorts may apply for Media Stars. See FAQ for more information.

When and Where Does Media Squad Happen?
Each Media Squad cohort includes three meetings, with two of them being mandatory meetings. Meetings are a combination of in-person and virtual experiences focused on building creative skills, exploring media production, and connecting with industry professionals.
The final meeting of the cohort is the annual Media Squad Watch Party, where members celebrate their accomplishments, showcase their creative projects, and reflect on their experiences.
Outside of meetings, Media Squad members are invited to join special content days and events throughout the year.
The Media Squad program runs from October 2026 – June 2027.
What Will You Do?
Media Squad Members Will:
- Star in GSNorCal-produced videos for campaigns, promotions, and other marketing projects.
- Build confidence speaking on camera.
- Learn the basics of video production, including filming and video editing using CapCut.
- Create video content featured on GSNorCal's digital channels, including social media.
- Meet and learn from media professionals.
- Cover Girl Scout events alongside GSNorCal's Marketing & Communications team.
- Get a chance to write articles and be featured in the annual copy of the Media Squad Magazine.
- Complete 3 projects and attend 2 mandatory meetings to complete the program and receive a certificate and Media Squad patch.

Social Media Filming Days
Attend in-person filming days where we will look at trending videos, make it Girl Scout-y, and film! We also film exclusive content for special Girl Scout Campaigns!
How to Join
- Must be a registered Girl Scout for the upcoming membership year.
- Must be a Junior, Cadette, Senior or Ambassador.
- Have permission from a parent/guardian to participate and submit a signed media release.
- Must participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program (in-person sales, Digital Cookie, or Cookie Lite), as cookie season will be underway during the Media Squad program.
- Must be flexible to be called upon for major Girl Scout events.
- Camera Confidence: Embrace the limelight and be comfortable sharing your sparkle on camera. Your confidence will inspire others!
- Some video, interviewing, public speaking, and/or on-screen experience with passion for expanding those skills.
- Must adhere to Media Squad contract and guidelines.
