Half Moon Bay, CA (May 23, 2024)— Members of Girl Scouts of Northern California Troop 25, who first met as seven-year-old Brownies in 1952, recently gathered in Half Moon Bay to celebrate over 70 years of enduring friendship. Since their first meeting, these women have experienced life's significant milestones together and committed to biennial reunions starting in 1980.
“Early on, we realized how much our friendships mattered to us. We had grown up together. Together we learned how to deal with conflicts and hurt feelings. We had learned about competition and cooperation, and we had learned about celebrating each other,” said Lennie Harris, Troop 25 member.
A memorable moment in their history occurred in 1961 during a trip to Europe, where their Troop Leader purchased a Belgian veil. This veil became a cherished symbol, worn by eight troop members at their weddings, and subsequently by six of their daughters and one granddaughter.
"Girl Scouts offers a foundation for personal growth and the formation of deep, enduring friendships. Observing the unwavering support among the members of Troop 25 through the years fills me with immense pride. They embody the spirit of lifelong Girl Scouting," said Bri Seoane, Girl Scouts of Nothern California CEO. "Troop 25 serves as an inspiration to me to bring Girl Scouting to more girls so they can have the support they need through many decades to come.”
Since its inception in 1912, the Girl Scouts organization has dedicated itself to developing girls of courage, character, and confidence, empowering them to improve the world. The recent reunion of Troop 25 was a poignant opportunity for the members to reconnect and share cherished memories, highlighting the profound impact of their Girl Scout experiences on their lives.
