Girl Scouts: Girl-led. Girl Tested. Girl Approved. Since 1912.

Yesterday afternoon, through a press release on their website, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced they would be accepting girls into their membership starting in their 2018 program year. While we support girls and their families having a variety of options and activities, we stand firm knowing that Girl Scouts is the best leadership experience for girls in the world—because girls are at the center of everything we do.

Girl Scouts of Northern California remains committed to and believes strongly in the importance of the all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment that Girl Scouts provides, which creates a necessary safe space for girls to learn and thrive. We are more committed than ever to ensuring that girls take their rightful place as leaders in their communities, their country, and the world. As the world’s preeminent girl-serving organization, we care deeply about the well-being of girls and providing them with the opportunity and the platform to explore their interests and aspirations. As such, any action that could affect girls and their healthy growth is of utmost concern to us.

Girl Scouting’s more than 100-year legacy of research, experience, and results prove the success of our focus exclusively on girls. Our approach to developing a pipeline of strong, confident girls and women with amazing leadership skills originates from our expertise knowing the unique needs of girls and understanding the gender gaps that still exist in nearly every facet of business and society.

We are girl experts. We hear from girls and their families every day about the value of the incredible experiences we offer them, including in STEM, outdoor, entrepreneurship, and life-skills programming that propel them into leadership roles in adulthood. These opportunities create a profound and lasting impact locally and internationally through Girl Scouting.

We have 59 million Girl Scout alumnae, and 2.8 million members and volunteers to attest to the exceptional experiences for girls, and the benefits of Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts is, and will remain, the scouting program that truly benefits girls by providing the best comprehensive all-girl experiences for girls and young women to maximize their potential and fuel the future.
