Renew before May 31 to maximize your renewal rewards

Renew Your Membership

In these unusual times, your Girl Scout membership is more valuable than ever before. For just $40, you’ll have access to an entire year of support, sisterhood, and fun with your troop, your family, and Girl Scout community. Until we are together again in person, your girl can participate in virtual troop meetings, earn badges remotely, and connect with other Girl Scouts through a wide variety of exciting virtual events. As an alternative to using your family funds, you can pay for our already low membership costs by using your GSNorCal funds if your girl chooses to use her Product Program reward card, by agreeing with your troop to use troop funds, or by requesting financial aid.

If you need assistance, email us at info@gsnorcal.org. We're more than happy to help guide you through the renewal process!

Renewal FAQs

Who can renew?
  • As an individual who is a current member, you can renew yourself.
  • As a parent or guardian, you can renew membership for your family members–your girls and other family who are registered adult volunteers.
  • As a troop leader, you can renew membership for all or some of the girls and adults in your troop.
  • As a 12th Grade Ambassador, you can bridge to adult by purchasing an adult membership or a Young Alum Lifetime Membership.
What if I'm a lifetime member?

Lifetime members do not need to pay annual membership dues, but you need to renew any volunteer roles you plan to continue with! Keeping your MyGS account updated with your current volunteer roles enables the council to make sure you receive any relevant communications that you'll need to be successful as a volunteer.

How much does it cost to renew my membership?

Annual Girl Membership: $40.00*
Annual Adult Membership: $25.00

*The $40 Annual Girl Membership renewal fee includes the $25 membership fee which goes to GSUSA and a $15 council service fee which stays within our council to support programs, properties, and camps.

As an alternative to using your family funds, you can pay for our already low membership costs using your GSNorCal funds if your daughter chooses to use her Product Program reward card, agreeing with your troop to use troop funds, or requesting financial aid. For information about how to use Reward Cards for renewals, read the Family Renewal Instructions

Upgrade to a Lifetime Membership and save!

When you renew, become a lifetime member for the one-time fee of $400 (or $200 for alums under 30) and never pay for your annual membership again!

  • Young Alum (ages 18-29): $200
  • Adult (ages 30+): $400
Do I need another background check?

Following completion of 2021 membership renewal, all 2021 members who want to volunteer to serve in Girl Scouts (such as a Troop Helper, Troop Treasurer or Troop Co-Leader, or to serve as a Service Unit volunteer) and who have not completed a background check with Girl Scouts in the past three years, will be asked to complete a background check.

Adult Girl Scout members holding a Girl Scout volunteer role are required to complete a background check every three years. Electronic background check fees run approximately $11.75 (varies by DMV), and financial aid is available.

Volunteers who are required to complete a new background check will receive two emails about the process, one from Girl Scouts of Northern California and one from the background check vendor, including specific directions on completing the background check.

How do I receive my Early Bird renewal incentives?

Early Bird patches and/or rockers will be available for troop leaders to pick up locally in October through your service unit or troop leader.

Coupon codes for girls who renew prior to July 15, 2020 have been emailed to families already. If you have not received your coupon code by August 21, please contact info@gsnorcal.org.

Troops who qualify for Troop Triumph Rocker and Friendship Activity Packet (50% of girls renewed, 1 Troop Leader, and 1 additional adult in a volunteer role by July 15) will receive the Troop Triumph Rockers and Friendship Activity Packet locally in October through your service unit. Coupon codes will be emailed by early September. If you do not receive a coupon code, please contact info@gsnorcal.org.

How can the coupon incentive be used?

Coupon codes can be used on any qualifying in-store or online Girl Scout shop purchase.

GSUSA coupon regulations apply, excluding gift certificates, downloadable content, and branded items from Amberleaf, Stanley, Deuter, Luci mPowered, Biolite, Big Agnes and DVF (as per GSUSA’s agreement with these national vendors) from being purchased with a council coupon. For “Ships from Council” items, coupon only applies if GSNorCal is in the listing name.

Please note: Council shops may be closed during COVID-19. Check our Shop webpage for the most up-to-date information.

12th grade Girl Scout bridging to Adult?

12th grade Girl Scout Ambassadors bridge to adult members by registering as an adult Girl Scout for 2021 for $25 or as a lifetime member. A special Young Alum Lifetime Membership at the reduced cost of $200 (regularly priced at $400) is offered to girls ages 18–29.
