Renew Your Membership

Whether you’ve been a member for a few months or many years, we think you’ll agree that a Girl Scout membership is one of the most valuable investments anyone can make in a girl’s life, providing rich experiences for her to explore new interests, face challenges, form new friendships, and make lasting community contributions.

If you renewed early, don't forget to go the extra mile to earn your complementary rocker:

  • Renewal 2020 Troop Mentor Rocker
  • » Troop Mentor Rocker

Mentor a new or younger girl troop before December 31 and your entire troop earns the Troop Mentor rocker! The deadline for submitting the Troop Mentor Rocker Request Form is January 30, 2020

Renewal FAQs

Who can renew?
  • As an individual who is a current member, you can renew yourself.
  • As a parent or guardian, you can renew membership for your family members–your girls and other family who are registered adult volunteers.
  • As a troop leader, you can renew membership for all or some of the girls and adults in your troop.
What if I'm a lifetime member?

Lifetime members do not need to pay annual membership dues, but you do need to renew into any volunteer roles you plan to continue with! Keeping your MyGS account updated with your current volunteer roles enables us to make sure you receive any relevant communications that you'll need to be successful as a volunteer.

Plus, lifetime members who renew into their role by April 30 will earn the Early Renewal patch and rocker!

How much does it cost to renew my membership?

Annual Girl Membership: $40.00
Annual Adult Membership: $25.00

Upgrade to a Lifetime Membership and save!

When you renew, become a lifetime member for the one-time fee of $400 and never pay for your annual membership again!

  • Young Alum (ages 18-29): $200
  • Adult (ages 30+): $400

Plus, April 1–30, 2019 only, all adults who have been members for 10+ years can purchase the lifetime membership at a 50% discount for just $200! Learn more and renew at girlscouts.org/lifetime.

Do I need another background check?

Adult Girl Scout members holding a Girl Scout volunteer role are required to complete a background check every three years. The background check is at no cost to the volunteer and is completed online.

Following the completion of 2020 membership renewal, all volunteers who are new to Girl Scouts or who have not completed a background check with Girl Scouts in the past three years, will be asked to complete a background check.

Volunteers who are required to complete a new background check will receive two emails about the process, one from Girl Scouts of Northern California and one from the background check vendor, including specific directions on completing the background check.

How do I receive my Early Bird renewal incentives?

Early Bird patches and/or rockers can be picked up now at your local council shop! Alternatively, your troop leaders will be able to pick them up during their October Service Unit Leader Meetings.

Coupon codes for girls and troop leaders who renew prior to April 30 will be emailed to parents and troop leaders in late May. If you do not receive a coupon code via email by June 1, please contact info@gsnorcal.org.

12th grade Girl Scout bridging to Adult?

Twelfth-grade Girl Scout Ambassadors will receive an email in April providing them with information on registering as an adult Girl Scout for 2020 or as a lifetime member. A special Young Alum lifetime membership at the reduced cost of $200 (regularly priced at $400) is offered to girls ages 18–29.
