When I Grow Up Career Exploration Event

Hosted by: The Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos
Cost: $15/person and includes all-day museum admission (girls and tag-alongs that register by October 1 will also receive a fun patch)

K-12 Girl Scouts of all ages along with their friends & family members are invited to our STEAM (science, technology, art, engineering, math) career exploration event.  Explore your interests, meet inspiring women in STEAM, and learn more about how you can excel in STEAM fields.   

There will be interactive activity booths for all ages. Older girls can participate in special hands-on workshops and career panels.

Older Girl Workshops & Career Panels

Older girls in 6th-12th grades; Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors, will have an opportunity to pre-register for one or two special hands-on workshop or career panel. Space is limited and will be prioritized for girls that register by September 22. 

2:00 PM-2:50 PM:

“Arduino Building” by  Code One Programming
As of September 27, this workshop is FULL.
Learn about how to use simple electronics and engineering to make fun projects! We will be using Arduino, a simple programmable tool for our project. We will utilize motors, lights, sensors and more to create something fun!

“Fruit Flies; The Giant of Scientific Research” by The Buck Institute for Research on Aging
Learn about these tiny important insects and the role they play in scientific research. We will investigate using fruit flies in biomedical research and design an experiment to determine the age of fruit flies.

Learn about the basic principles of optics and the ways in which we can harness the power of light to see, to communicate and to study this world and the worlds beyond.

Hiller Aviation’s Drone Plex and Invention Lab

Visit the east side of the exhibit hall for interactive activities in Hiller's Drone Plex and Invention Lab.

Day-of event admission:
The last day to register with GSNorCal is October 4. Missed the GSNorCal registration deadline? You can buy a ticket at the door! Day-of admission cost for adults: $23, seniors 65+ and children 4+: $16 (4 and under are free), and Hiller Aviation Members pay just $5/person.

Please note: Older girl workshops and career panel have limited space due to room capacity and are prioritized for girls registered by September 22. If space allows, day-of walk-ins will be accommodated.

Flight Sim Zone:
With expert help from one of our volunteer pilots, discover how airplanes move in three-dimensions with your hands at the controls. Take a virtual flight across the Bay and see the world from the unique perspective of a pilot.

Pass Required. $4 per pass (in addition to event admission). Pass is free for Hiller Aviation Museum Members.
