GSNorCal is thrilled to announce that we have received a grant from Oracle for the fourth year in a row to bring our afterschool STEM program, Girls Go Tech, to the Bay Area Peninsula. Oracle’s support means that 150 girls at 10 schools across the peninsula will have the opportunity to spark enthusiasm for STEM, the confidence that they are “good” at STEM activities, and a sense of belonging in STEM fields in a supportive, all-girl environment. Last year, 88% of girls participating in Oracle supported Girls Go Tech programs gained confidence in performing STEM activities, and 91% reported they developed leadership skills and a growth mindset.
Our partnership with Oracle means that girls who don’t normally have access to innovative, hands-on STEM activities, and who are underrepresented in STEM fields, will have the opportunity to develop interest in STEM careers, practice creative problem-solving with STEM concepts, and self-identify as science learners. In addition to grant support, many Oracle employees volunteer as troop leaders and in other roles supporting their daughters’ troops.
Thanks to Oracle for all your support, and we’re looking forward to another great year of girls exploring STEM in Girl Scouts!
